Sedation Dentistry

Sedation Dentistry

Even dentists realize the potential anxiety and dread associated with visiting a dental office and hearing the distant drilling sound in the waiting room. We truly wish your experience with us convinces you the Dentist is not such a scary figure after all. Over 35 million Americans experience some level of anxiety while visiting the dentist—you are not alone! Our staff will go to great lengths to minimize your pain and maximize your comfort during your visits. Our specialists and anesthesiologists are highly experienced when it comes to making our patients comfortable during treatment.

What is sedation dentistry?

A modern approach that uses sedatives to soothe patients’ anxieties about dental procedures and provide pain relief. Complicated, painful procedures such as full mouth reconstruction are made possible (and painless) thanks to sedation.

IV Sedation in Dentistry

Less than 1% of Californian dentists are licensed to perform IV sedation. Our office falls into this minuscule percentage with an impeccable two-decade record of this service. This procedure involves the intravenous injection of a sedative that makes the patient drowsy. Once it wears off and the procedure is over, the patient will wake up with no recollection of the treatment. This type of sedation provides the ultimate VIP comfort.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation in Dentistry

Extremely popular and effective for less painful or severe procedures, the “laughing gas” creates a euphoric effect and causes the patient to almost instantaneously relax. Then it provides analgesia (inability to feel pain) throughout the procedure.

Oral Sedation in Dentistry

Another sedation method we use is oral sedation—the most easily administered. The patient takes a sedative pill the night before the procedure and/or several hours before. Once the procedure begins, the patient is calm throughout the procedure. We advise the patient does not drive to the dental office as the sedation becomes effective before the appointment.
